Train through Olympic history, green parks, and one of Europe’s most active cities.
Munich is an easy city to explore through movement. Swim in the pool built for the 1972 Olympics, run through the English Garden, train across the hills and paths of Olympiapark, or build your own workout around the Bavaria statue. Good public transportation makes it possible to combine triathlon training and city travel without a car.
Best places to swim, run, cycle and train in Munich
Swim where Olympic history still shapes the atmosphere.
50 m Olympic pool · around 9–10 lanes · excellent water · diving pool and 10 m platform · large deck for warm-up/cooldown · U-Bahn access · inside Olympiapark.
Regular admission is currently €6.90, while the 90-minute short-swim tariff is €5 Monday–Saturday

🏃RUN — Three very different Munich workouts
Englischer Garten
For the long, easy run.
Huge green environment, paved and natural paths, grass, calisthenics opportunities and easy cycling, although busy areas aren't ideal for fast riding.

Olympiapark München
For hills, trails and strength.
Paved paths + off-road sections + hills + outdoor training. It also gives us that fantastic combination:
50 m swim → run through Olympiapark → calisthenics
And your spring observation about the purple blossoms belongs here because that's precisely the kind of detail that makes TriathlonTrips different from a generic training directory.

Bavariapark
For intervals, stairs and a workout inside Munich life.
This one is more unusual: sprints/intervals, grass, stairs around the Bavaria/Ruhmeshalle area, nearby outdoor fitness, football, cricket, Frisbee and cycling.

🤸♀️🧘Fitness & Yoga
Gym training in Munich: the day-pass problem
Finding a reasonably priced gym day pass was surprisingly difficult during my spring visit. Most options I found either cost €25 or more for a single visit or pushed visitors toward week passes around €50.
The Sanctuary
A good alternative when a conventional gym day pass doesn't make sense.
Quality yoga session, clean facilities, changing area, belongings felt safe, app booking, arrive ~15 minutes early and introduce yourself to the instructor.
I paid €16 for my class during my visit. Current pricing may differ.

🏨 Budget stays for athletes and solo travelers
Jaeger's Munich
I loved the €8 breakfast —vegetables, eggs, good brown bread, juice and coffee. wonderful for all-level atheltes to start their day properly.

Great option, lovely location.
MEININGER Hotel München Zentrum
Affordable dorm-style accommodation, central location, lockers, clean bathrooms, social lobby, tables, board games/piano, breakfast option.
Note: Bring your own lock.
Also useful: no individual bed curtain or convenient bedside charging point during your stay.
Between workouts
Bayerische Staatsbibliothek
For reading, thinking and getting some work done. Your observation that visitor access to the whole building is limited is important. The library confirms that some reading-room access requires a valid library card, while free BayernWLAN is available across almost all user areas.

Starbucks Karlsplatz
Two floors, central, Wi-Fi, laptop-friendly and overlooking the square.

Billy's Café & Kiosk
Better for sitting with a book than opening the laptop.
Munich without a car
Munich is particularly appropriate for the TriathlonTrips approach: U-Bahn/S-Bahn + walking + cycling can connect accommodation, Olympic Park, parks and central-city locations.
We can include the useful current framework that Munich city is MVV Zone M, while Munich Airport is in Zone 5, so airport-to-city journeys require M–5 coverage.
And Olympia-Schwimmhalle being reachable by subway is a major part of why we rated it so highly as a traveling athlete's pool—not simply because it's a good pool.
Do you need a triathlon training camp in Munich?
Not necessarily. Munich is easy to turn into your own training camp.
Build a swim around Olympia-Schwimmhalle, run through Olympiapark or the English Garden, add hills, trails, stairs or calisthenics, and use Munich's public transportation to connect the sessions. TriathlonTrips focuses on helping independent athletes find the places and practical information they need to keep training while they travel.
